What Is Subaru Mobility Assist?

Subaru of America offers assistance for necessary vehicle adaptations associated with medically recognized physical disabilities. This is reimbursement for qualifying modification expenses, rather than an automatic discount on a Subaru's purchase price. Subaru makes the final eligibility decision. Review the official U.S. program details before arranging installation.

Which Vehicles Qualify?

The program applies to a new, untitled Subaru purchased or leased from an authorized U.S. Subaru retailer. The published rules do not limit the program to a single Subaru model. Used and Certified Pre-Owned vehicles are outside this new-vehicle eligibility description. Confirm the selected VIN and proposed equipment with Subaru before assuming reimbursement.

Program eligibility and modification compatibility are separate questions. A particular lift, control or other adaptation may not work with every vehicle. An adaptive-equipment professional should assess the specific model, trim and installation plan before you commit to a vehicle or equipment.

Start with Access and Fit

Compare the door opening, seat height, transfer space, passenger position and room for the mobility equipment you actually use. Try loading your wheelchair, walker or scooter if practical. Consider whether you need equipment for driving, passenger access or carrying a mobility device; those can lead to different vehicle choices.

These are shopping starting points, not promises of wheelchair-accessible conversions or approved equipment packages. Tell our team what you would like to evaluate so we can focus your visit on relevant vehicles.

What Equipment May Be Reimbursable?

Subaru lists adaptations such as hand and foot controls, steering devices, pedal extensions, servo-assisted controls, and wheelchair or scooter lifts or ramps. Required adaptations need a medical doctor's letter or prescription. Factory optional equipment, including factory power seats, is not reimbursable. For unlisted equipment or uncertain eligibility, obtain Subaru's approval before proceeding.

How to Prepare a Mobility Assist Claim

  1. Review eligibility and equipment compatibility before installation. For a lease, discuss permitted modifications and return requirements with the leasing company; Subaru's guidance says modifications must be removed before lease turn-in.
  2. Keep the vehicle purchase order and VIN. Obtain the doctor's letter or prescription describing the necessary modification.
  3. Have the qualifying installation completed within the program deadline. Keep an installation-facility receipt showing full payment.
  4. Complete and sign the official Mobility Assist claim form (PDF). Follow the form's current submission instructions and include all required documents within 180 days of installation.

Send medical documentation through Subaru's claim process. Please do not place medical records or detailed health information in our general website contact form.

Already Purchased Your Subaru?

You can review the program after delivery. A recent purchase does not require you to start another vehicle transaction: check your purchase date, installation date, vehicle eligibility and claim deadline. Ask our team for help locating your purchase documents and the official program resources. Reimbursement is subject to review, not guaranteed.

Mobility Shopping Questions

Can I combine this with another Subaru offer?

Do not assume incentive stacking. Ask us to review the selected vehicle's current purchase or lease offer, and confirm Mobility Assist terms with Subaru separately. Get the complete vehicle quote and installation estimate so you can compare the total cost.

Does the dealership install adaptive controls or lifts?

Contact us about the vehicle you are considering. Confirm installer qualifications, equipment fitment, installation costs and scheduling with an adaptive-equipment specialist. This page does not promise an in-house conversion service.

Where can I find an equipment specialist?

The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association is one resource for starting your installer search. Subaru also provides equipment examples and claim assistance through its Mobility Assist customer-support guidance.
