Compare Vehicle Warranty and Service-Agreement Value
A warranty and an optional service agreement are different. A manufacturer warranty comes with the vehicle; a separately purchased service agreement covers specified repairs or services under its written terms. Additional coverage can be useful, but compare it with coverage you already have.
Five Questions Before Choosing Coverage
- What is covered? Read covered components, exclusions and maintenance requirements.
- When does coverage apply? Confirm the start date, time and mileage limits, and overlap with existing coverage.
- What could I pay? Compare the contract price, deductible and expenses for non-covered work. Repairs are not automatically free.
- How do claims work? Identify the administrator, approved repair facilities and any required authorization.
- What happens when I sell? Read transfer terms and fees instead of assuming the agreement increases resale value.
